Re: God
Orthodoxymoron - I quote - "To me, at least, the
Teachings of Jesus are the Word ofGod. The
Word of God in the Old Testament sometimes seems
to be the Word of Satan. Consider the ritual-sacrifices,
conquests and atrocities commanded by 'God'.
When Satan tempted Jesus..he offered him the
kingdoms of the world..and Christ did not dispute
Satan's authority."
I could not agree more.
You could say I was born with a Bible in my hand -
strongly religious, Bible-based family (Salvation Army
actually). So there has been a lot of questioning
over the years, and of late - especially since I have
become open to discussions such as these - I have
joined you, Orthodoxymoron, in your view.
There is no way I can see the 'God' of the O.T.
as GOD - for the reasons you outline.
Lately I have (as it seems you have also) been
looking through the Gospels for what Jesus said -
or is reported to have said - regarding the O.T.
scriptures.
There is no doubt that he saw things very differently
and made his views known. It cost him his life.
For me, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
was (and is) victory over Satan - the God of this
world.
Jesus saw God as his Father, taught the Lord's Prayer -
'Our Father', which is a powerful invocation - said
'Our Father' saw the sparrows fall, and knew the
number of the hairs of our head, demonstrated God's
healing and compasssion. This is the God I love
and serve.
Blessings to all
