Default Re: Do you feel the need to keep your 'spiritual self' veiled in the workforce?

In my last job I kept it to myself. I found that spirituality in any form doesn't fly well in the pub trade. I'm no longer involved in it thank goodness.

For me it was a case of conservation of energy. When at my first pub I let it be known, which was a mistake. It's not so much that I care what other people think (though to begin with it was- if anyone is 'finding their feet' on a path I would suggest extreme caution in who you open up to), nothing that was said dissuaded me from my path, but I found it draining having to constantly shield against negativity; snide comments and jokes from the ignorant about something that was very important and deeply personal to me.

So when I moved to my next place I kept it to myself. I established firm boundaries between my working and personal lives. I was living in the flat above the pub and sometimes members of staff would be in there and see evidence of what I did, and if they asked a question I answered it honestly, but it was very rare I was asked. It seems that my intention to keep it private was enough to keep it so, almost like they forgot the answer as soon as they left. The friends I made there knew roughly but never pushed the issue or made a big deal about it.

I keep it to myself generally- it's nobody's business but mine. If I'm asked how much I reveal depends on who I'm talking to. I'm not a big fan of the Bible but I think Jesus said something like "Cast not thy pearls before swine, lest they turn and rend ye." I think this kind of thing is what he was talking about.
