You were not born when the SAS fought in Malaya. However, the use of cover stories is a given in the SF world. In other operations SAS teams actually 'retired' from the Army and were sent as total deniables into war and other situations. If caught, they were labelled as mercenaries or private contractors.
They were promoted and reinstated into the army on their return.
Founder of the SAS and SOFD-D? interesting.
SOFD-D / CAG was formed in 1977 after 'charging charlie' spent time with the SAS and came away realising that an effective, iron willed counter terror unit was needed. From him SOFD-D was born. It never had anything to do with the Green berets.
(The 'Delta' moniker was from 'Operation Delta', which was a special team during Vietnam war to train south vietamese and other troops in long range recon patrol and recce skills. Col. Beckwith was aprt of this and used 'Delta' in later years as it was skills he saw were vital to specialised troops).

I am fully aware that the SAS were OFFICIALLY in Malaya until 1966. I was born in 1976. However as I stated before the SF versus 'commuinsim' conflicts such as Malaya, south and central america etc are often cover stories for conflicts with ET lifeforms. These conflicts are ongoing in these areas
