In the Anastasia books grandfathers corrects the knowledge of ancient Russia, of the Vedrus people, the old pagans. The historians had stated that these people hunted all the animals and grandfather said no, they were domesticated, many of them and that the woolly mamouths for instance were used like we used draft horses in the old days. They were never killed and eaten. One reason being that there would be so much meat at one time, that it would go to waste. They were quiet and gentle animals.

I love this vision of the animals (all animals) as friends and helpmates. This is definitely part of my vision of the New World, the New Heaven. I see it happening now with my own animals.
