Well, there is more to the story.
Jesus Christ did not come to start yet another religion. He came to tidy up in some of the mess the existing religions had created. He came with spiritual teachings and guidance, and as such the spiritual guidance he offered is scientific, and so is his cosmology
Do you think the picture that Christian Churches have of an
all male Cosmic/Divine hierarchy is the truth? That is as good a delusion as any other!
The religious mind is always seeking a saviour. Therefore history is full of saviour figures, one name after another.
The one on an open spiritual quest feels perfectly safe. He/she simply seeks information, education, understanding, connection with spirit.
Keeping Mary as a main figure is one decent thing that the Roman Catholic Church has done. It should be on Earth as it is in Heaven:
