James,
there is indeed underground levels to RAF Portreath that have small doors set at angles into the ground.

To disguise them from aerial observation, they cut ditches out of the earth, and slotted the doors in there. Theres also a considerable volume of buried nastiness hidden there as it was at the time considered OK to 'bury' left overs in the ground.

(Work on chemical weapons at CDE Nancekuke stopped between 1976 and 1978) by the way and it all went off site to other establishments.
