Discovered: NASA: Cosmic Rays from a Mysterious, Nearby Object
The following has just come in from the NASA subscription service
NASA Science News for November 19, 2008 An international team of researchers has discovered a puzzling surplus of high-energy electrons bombarding Earth from space. The source of these cosmic rays is unknown, but it must be close to the solar system and it could be made of dark matter. 3000 parsecs is still a helluva distance :)
A parsec is a wee bit more than 3 light years, so "within 3 kiloparsecs" means within 9000 light years. |
