According to unconfirmed reports US Defense Secretary Roberts Gates has directed all US forces to achieve DEFCON 1 status by 7th October. Defence Condition 1 is a state of highest readiness against imminent attack.

Does anyone have any information on this development.

PYONGYANG, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A surprise preemptive U.S. attack on the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is imminent, the DPRK's official KCNA news agency quoted a military source as saying Thursday.

"The U.S. imperialists are now massively beefing up their naval and air forces and rapid task forces in South Korea and around the Korean Peninsula to stifle the DPRK by force of arms," the source said.

The military source elaborated that the United States has deployed nuclear-powered carrier George Washington in Japan, fighter bombers F-22A in Alaska and B-52Hs on Guam.

Moreover, it maintains 3,500 troops, a squadron of F-16 fighter bombers and another squadron of helicopters in South Korea.

A U.S. war against the DPRK "has entered the phase of its implementation," he said.

The DPRK announced Friday it would restore its Yongbyon nuclear facilities, which should have been undergoing a disablement process under a six-party deal.

DPRK media have intensified their rhetorical war against the United States since the six-party talks aimed at ridding the DPRK of its nuclear program reached a deadlock.
