Soil: Research links Nitrates with Alzheimer's, Diabetes, Parkinson's - coffee helps!

About food, soil fertilizers, fast food, meat processing - all 'big' business.

1. A new study by researchers at Rhode Island Hospital have found a substantial link between increased levels of nitrates in our environment and food with increased deaths from diseases, including Alzheimer's, diabetes mellitus and Parkinson's. The study was published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease. http://www.physorg.com/news166078729.html
................................................
The researchers graphed and analyzed mortality rates, and compared them with increasing age for each disease. They then studied United States population growth, annual use and consumption of nitrite-containing fertilizers, annual sales at popular fast food chains, and sales for a major meat processing company, as well as consumption of grain and consumption of watermelon and cantaloupe (the melons were used as a control since they are not typically associated with nitrate or nitrite exposure).

The findings indicate that while nitrogen-containing fertilizer consumption increased by 230 percent between 1955 and 2005, its usage doubled between 1960 and 1980, which just precedes the insulin-resistant epidemics the researchers found. They also found that sales from the fast food chain and the meat processing company increased more than 8-fold from 1970 to 2005, and grain consumption increased 5-fold.

The authors state that the time course of the increased prevalence rates of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and diabetes cannot be explained on the basis of gene mutations. They instead mirror the classical trends of exposure-related disease. Because nitrosamines produce biochemical changes within cells and tissues, it is conceivable that chronic exposure to low levels of nitrites and nitrosamines through processed foods, water and fertilizers is responsible for the current epidemics of these diseases and the increasing mortality rates associated with them.

De la Monte states, "If this hypothesis is correct, potential solutions include eliminating the use of nitrites and nitrates in food processing, preservation and agriculture; taking steps to prevent the formation of nitrosamines and employing safe and effective measures to detoxify food and water before human consumption."

Excellent info, no caste. And concrete solutions can be applied to alleviate this situation. At the very least, we can control what we eat.

Hi sunflower - Yes, I guess I'm thinking in epidemiological terms, not individual. It's quite easy to make personal choices. This kind of thing does 'get' me, especially in relation to public health care costs, people's well-being (or suffering) and the profitability of bad agricultural practices.

I wonder how (or if) nitrate chemistry interacts with fluoride additives in municipal water supplies. Any biochemists out there?

LOVE

Great thread no caste and all true. The soil has been 'mined' of its nutrients the past sixty years and people are getting sicker and sicker. The only way to farm is biologically, using organic methods with modern science. This way delivers healthy crops and healthy animals. Acres USA is a great source of info in the States for how to go about this. We farm this way in New Zealand with great results. No nitrates are used on the land. The systems are also cheaper and more profitable. Dr Arden Anderson is also a fabulous teacher who teaches how to farm biologically. Its tragic that he is largely unknown in America (he is American) but he is well known around the world for his expertise and knowledge.

Cheers

Carmen

Ps A refractometer which tests the sweetness of plants can tell you if something is nutritionally dense. It was first used to test grape sweetness, but we use them to test all plants for sweetness. **** food is bland with no taste or sweetness.

Asteram, one of our members is a soil expert who has an e-book on biological farming. It would be great if he would add to this thread as he has a great amount of knowledge.

I was thinking about Asteram, too :original:

Here's his blog:

I looked up your info, Carmen, and it looks very interesting. Thanks! I'm posting a bit of it here for others, too.

UPDATE: There is the whole caregivers' burnout cycles, costs and/or free labour to consider too, since Alzheimer's and Dementia are on the rise.

The damage already done to our soil in unforgivable! If you'd like to know about the latest crazy idea the gov't has.....go to:

(scroll down page)
http://blogs.healthfreedomalliance.o...ste-on-fields/

US wants Farmers to use coal WASTE on fields !!!

Now THIS is truly beyond belief. OMG !! Who thinks up this nonsense? If they have any toxic wastes left over from any sort of manufacturing....the gov't just makes it sound like something people need....then put it in the soil, food, water....whatever.

Fluoride is another great example (toxic waste from aluminium processing) being put in water, toothpaste etc. That it was also used in the Nazi camps to make ppl. more 'docile' tells you everything you need to know. Check it out.
