At first glance, this sweet beagle puppy seems nothing out of the ordinary.

But when she is lit with an ultraviolet light, the astonishing dog glows in the dark.

Ruppy - short for Ruby Puppy - was one of five cloned puppies genetically engineered to produce a fluorescent protein by scientists. When placed under an ultraviolet light they all glow a deep red.

A cloned beagle named Ruppy is the world's first transgenic dog. She was engineered to glow red under ultraviolet light

They were created by a team led by Byeong-Chun Lee of Seoul National University in South Korea, who created the first cloned dog Snuppy in 2005.
The dogs are transgenic animals, which means their genetic code has been deliberately modified rather than mutating naturally.

Team member CheMyong Ko from the University of Lexington said they could go on to create dogs with human illnesses.

'The next step for us is to generate a true disease model,' he told New Scientist magazine.

However, many scientists have criticised the process saying dogs already serve as models for diseases including some cancers, narcolepsy and blindness.

Nathan Sutter, a geneticist at Cornell University in New York added: 'Transgenesis is laborious, expensive and slow.'
Mr Lee's team only had seven successful pregnancies from 344 specially cloned embryos implanted in 20 dogs. But Mr Lee said some of the five surviving dogs were now producing their own red-glowing puppies.
The scientists transferred the fluorescent gene into each dog's egg cell using a retrovirus, but the team was unable to control where the virus inserted the gene.

Despite this, Mr Lee's lab now hope to create dogs who have a specific oestrogen receptor knocked out, which will help them understand how this hormone affects fertility.

Yes exactly what i thought, WHY!!!! are they running out of ideas what to think of next.
I can imagine one saying to the other.
"Hm what can we do today,i know lets make this one light up in the dark!"
"Yeah seems like a good idea to me!"

So if your puppy gets lost at night you'll be able to find him using ultraviolet lights! cool!

DOGGONE!! I'M SEEING RED!! BETTER DEAD THAN RED!! I'm also seeing science as the end of the human race...rather than the hope of the human race. I'm scared stiff about what scientists(alien and human) are creating in black budget labs. To me...this is a very dark nightmare. These mad scientists are some very sick puppies...

This is all so wrong, animals first humans next!
I cringe to think why they would be doing this.
The dog is cute yes but what did they have to do to genetically alter it's DNA to come up with this one.
Maybe fish in a tank that would be good no aquarium lighting needed, no only kidding all genetic dabbling comes with a price i'm afraid,probably why so many of us are messed up today.

How about genetically engineer sheeple to glow red so when they try to run, the ptb can simply use their lil ultra violet light and find em all.

No it has nothing to do with finding a lost puppy or using that technology on us.
They can find any warm blooded animal or human easily with heat sensing equipment, so it must have another purpose to it. hmmm

Notice the striping in the puppy as well, there have been many experiments with putting human genetics in animals in chimera projects I posted links in another post about them.

Perhaps they are working on things that will make it easier on inhabitants, people, animals , hybrids , chimera's , aliens, to live in the dark underground facilities. Or making it so the "chosen ones" have the ability to make vitamin C, we are one the few creatures who do not, and do make our own Vitamin D without the sun, for those "chosen" to inhabit the underground facilities they are building.

Not unless I cover myself in mud or maybe tin foil, i dunno, but it's just another tool, and with global warming maybe we will be the same temp as all around us.

I do enjoy the glow in the dark fishies though.
