Poll: Avalon Users - Employment

Curious thing here, how many people on Avalon work for themselves? In other words rely on their own abilities to survive and not just work for other people?

I do too...!

Plus I do most of my own mechanical work, house repairs, and today I am working on plumbing...what joy. Helps to know how to do things or who to ask and not have to hire someone else to do it if the funds are low. In a way it creates income. My father taught me lots of skills when I was young and I was eager to learn and still am today.

You can call me Ms. McGuiver. :original:

Re: Poll: Avalon Users - Employment

I realize that the unemployment problems don't effect people (as much) who work for their own well being. This seems to be a solution to the economic problems we are facing. People are left to own capabilities to survive. Which is the way things need to be, puts the responsibility back on ones self.

Everybody I know that is doing well and is free, works for them self. \

This will be an interesting poll.

I'm not sure I get the idea. Do you mean self-employed as such or self-employed on terms of sustainability and off-grid survival?

Hello there,

I answered 'both', for i am currently a third year law student - thus, likely to work for others in the near future - and i already have a Master of Arts in Philosophy - a matter of self service, so to speak - an area, where i remain most active.

Namaste,

When I was young I saw no point working to buy shares and real estate (which have already been wiped out). I'm not materialistic and am happy to have only the sun, the moon and the sky to my name.

On the other hand I need income and take what work is offered to me, drive old cars and live cheaply. I don't care if I end up bankrupt or poor because it doesn't matter after I die.

I work for myself around the property - and am learning new skills all the time. I am retired, but teach some online classes, so I guess you could say I work for others - but since I decide what and when I want to teach, the only part of that work for others is the paycheck.

Self employed too. I love restoring and beautifying old things so they last. A modest living.

Re: Poll: Avalon Users - Employment

I have worked in all ways

1) Self employed/Sole trader (wrote computer programs and sold them but all on my time/terms, but this soon ends up being working for others (see (4)), as you soon get tied into support commitments ... )

2) Employed ( rat race ) <-- current

3) Contractor (via agent)

4) Freelancer (working for self, but really for other people)

and at times, a combination. All in all its a good job the question was only about my current circumstances otherwise it would have been complex to answer accurately.

A..
