Excerpts:

Senate Democrats emerged Friday night from days of negotiations to declare that they had reached a deal with at least three moderate Republicans and now have the votes to approve their own version of a huge stimulus package that President Obama says is critical to strengthening the nation's flagging economy.

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., whom Obama defeated for the presidency in November, called it an "Orwellian experience" to hear Democrats refer to the deal as a bipartisan solution to the nation's economic problems. "I've been involved in a lot of bipartisan legislation around here," said McCain. "This is not bipartisan."
