Re: Put your house on wheels
I love it. Have house, will travel. This certainly would go a long ways in dealing with the homeless and housing situation.. it's call downsizing. Also, get this. You can build this and keep it on your property.. no building permit required because it is on wheels and one could rent it out and make money.
I ordered the building plans. If you check it out sky lights would be good and solar so it is self-sufficient with the exception of water. Dan... love your plan too but I will add this - building ones own little house is more fun. |
Re: Put your house on wheels
Yes building it would be more fun and satisfaction, I couldn't find an actual price on his site but they are over $10,000 I think. I would do something similar to his only use appliances and sinks and such out of travel trailer parts and actually have the same hook-ups as a trailer so you could use any trailer park you wanted! And also make the whole thing 12 volts so all you would need is a couple batteries and a small wind turbine, or solar panel to keep everything running and charged up.

Re: Put your house on wheels
Ouch!!!, wow some of those are $36,000, he's nuts! You can get a loaded 34 foot travel trailer with central air conditioning, washer and dryer, hardwood floors, fully furnished with all furniture and appliances, and now some are even throwing in a flat screen tv, for less than 36 grand! And they will finance for a long time making your payments about 300 a month or less.Look at these interiors compared to his...

Re: Put your house on wheels
money for the builders... it is much less if one builds it themselves. The problem for us on the island is that it would cost as much to ship your idea as to build it from scratch here. And then there is the tropical climate here so the wood type redwood or cedar home would be better.

Re: Put your house on wheels
Yes cedar would be a good choice, I will always lean towards the trailer because they're either aluminum or type of fiberglass and last a long time plus I lived in one very similar to the picture on the left, above. I bought it brand new and paid $22,000 financed for 12 years, payments were about 200 a month, it was 35 feet long and had a washer and dryer and central air and heat, full bath with glassed in shower, real nice, I lived in it for about 6 years in Ft. lauderdale in a nice park, it was great! The lot fee was 400 a month with free elec. and water.

Re: Put your house on wheels
Well there you go.. good experience.
We had a motor home which was great fun to travel in. My situation involves lots of animals. We had the dog and cat in the motor home.. but now we have chickens and horses so we need a spot for our animals to feed. |

Did you have to pay for the plans?? |
Re: Put your house on wheels
Around $20 for a book load of plans.. we spent today working on our pond prepping it so we can get some ducks.. it would be a hoot to have one of those little houses right up close to the pond to hang out in.
I also found this futon frame.. with really good wood at the dump and manage to drag it into the back of the truck and cart it home. Now I need to build a little house to put it in. :lmao: Meanwhile, we are also in the process of getting our aquaponics system materials so we can start building that. So the aquaponics system will go in before we're ready to build the tiny house. http://www.friendlyaquaponics.com/doitmyself.html |
