Quotations and Proverbs

there is a lot of wisdom in proverbs, quotations and short poems. If you want to share that wisdom post here...

From Henryk Sienkiewicz, the author of "Quo Vadis?"

The human soul, like the bee, extracts sweetness even from bitter herbs.

Love is such a great happiness that even the darkest is still interspersed with beams of light.

" I am a candle," said Reason. Love replied: "Brother! I am the sun - so your time comes only when I set."

Love is not blind: it just changes eyes into prisms and shows the world as rainbow-hued.

Re: Quotations and Proverbs

"Love is always patient and kind; love is never jealous; love is not boastful or conceited, it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offense or store up grievances. Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth. It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes. Love never comes to an end." I Corinthians 13:4-8

Quotes from Giordano Bruno 1548 – 1600-02-17 -- Burned at the stake as a heritic.

------------

"The Divine Light is always in man, presenting itself to the senses and to the comprehension, but man rejects it."

------------

"All things are in the universe, and the universe is in all things: we in it, and it in us: and in this way everything concurs in a perfect unity. "

------------

"It is then unnecessary to investigate whether there be beyond the heaven Space, Void or Time. For there is a single general space, a single vast immensity which we may freely call Void; in it are innumerable globes like this one on which we live and grow. This space we declare to be infinite, since neither reason, convenience, possibility, sense-perception nor nature assign to it a limit. In it are an infinity of worlds of the same kind as out own."

------------

"Nature is none other than God in things. Whence all of God is in all things.
Think thus, of the sun in the crocus, in the narcissus,
in the heliotrope, in the rooster, in the lion."

------------

"Therefore the perfect, absolutely and in itself, is one, infinite, which cannot be greater or better, and than which nothing can be greater or better. This is one, everywhere, the only God, universal nature, of which nothing can be a perfect image or reflection, but the infinite."

------------

"The Universe is one, infinite, immobile. The absolute potential is one, the act is one, the form or soul is one, the material or body is one, the thing is one, the being in one, one is the maximum and the best... It is not generated, because there is no other being it could desire or hope for. since it comprises all being. It does not grow corrupt. because there is nothing else into which it could change, given that it is itself all things. It cannot diminish or grow, since it is infinite."

------------

"Anything we take in the universe, because it has in itself that which is All in All, includes in its own way the entire soul of the world, which is entirely in any part of it."

------------

“He who desires to philosophize must first of all doubt all things. He must not assume a position in a debate before he has listened to the various opinions, and considered and compared the reasons for and against. He must never judge or take up a position on the evidence of what he has heard, on the opinion of the majority, the age, merits, or prestige of the speaker concerned, but he must proceed according to the persuasion of an organic doctrine which adheres to real things, and to a truth that can be understood by the light of reason."

------------

"When we consider the being and substance of that universe in which we are immutably set, we shall discover that neither we ourselves nor any substance doth suffer death. for nothing is in fact diminished in its substance, but all things, wandering through infinite space, undergo change of aspect."

This quotation brought to my mind the term "Recognition" that Leonard Laskow uses in the book Healing with Love. The fact that we can begin to heal our past hurts by calmly knowing what happened. Simply recognizing the truth.

In each moment we have the potential to be present, or to miss it. If we miss the moment, we never get it back, and when it happened we were essentially dead. Along the journey of evolution, we seemed to picked up the habit of not living in the moment, spending time either in the past, as memories, or in the future, as planning.

And it is often so hard to focus on the present...it is something that must be learned and then practiced.
