Thanks for your thoughts, and I meant no disrespect to you earlier.

Are you a slave Orion Morris? Do your ankles chafe under the shackles of oppression?

believe me to remain peaceful is not the easy way out at all, and is in fact contrary to my nature. BUT

I won't ever fight for peace, or go to war for justice, or kill one to save thousands. I won't act like a man to get a high powered job and I don't believe that you have to be in it to win it.

I will defend the sidelines as thats a great place to observe. None taken by the way, History, am of the school of thought that debate is not arguing.

best of luck to ya !!

Well I bet we could find at least a few million people over in Asia and Africa who would beg to differ.

America also has 10% of the worlds population, and 90% of its prisoners...
These prisoners work for free and have to do what ever they are told....
They have more slaves now then they have ever had before...

And another thing... America full supports China... and countless other countries who have more than just slavery occuring...

Slavery is not gone... it has just changed into a more acceptable shape.

Here is a quote from Immortal Technique

"Our people are the product of genocide and slavery
Everything in the ghetto was how it was made to be
Designed in a process, Prison Industrial Complex
Niggaz transformed into numbers and objects
We pay the devil rent for living in hell"

As a candidate that respects sovereignty, I would say that it is the people's duty in China and Africa to rise up - not just the slaves themselves, but the communities in which it takes place. The Chinese would argue with you Orion - they see our system as the epitome of slavery. And I think that outright slavery is more noble than what we have here in the U.S. or what exists in China, because at least in an openly slave system the slaves know they are slaves, not taught to believe they are free.

I agree, we have a higher prison population than China and Russia - and eighty percent of our inmates are there for drug "crimes," not violations of personal property or civil rights. However, I've had friends in prison, and there wasn't much work getting done there. They had cable, pool tables, free internet access, free gym facilities, etc. I don't see much prison "slavin" going on outside of our high-rise office buildings, if you catch my drift.

I don't think "America" is unified enough to support anything at this juncture; but I believe you are spot on if we replace "America" with "U.S. foreign policy makers and corporate interests."

Cheers.

And vote!

yep have to agree with orion, there are still chain gangs my friend, the first time I saw prisioners working on roadsides with guns pointed at them I nearly threw up. Then again my favourite was to have them working on a beach. You know I think that might just be the most humiliating thing I ever saw.

They is work, maybe each state is different...............

Yes, yes, the making of liscense plates and all that - we could throw in trash pickup crews too.

My point is that there is far too little of that going on in our prison system - if you kill someone, rape someone, rob them, etc., you should be worked like a dog.

My only regret is that 80% who are caught up in the system, who have no place there. But that is not the prison system's problem, it is a legislative problem. There are states doing it now - 11 state legislatures at the forefront of ending the "War on Drugs/Thought." Visit the NORML website:

http://norml.org/

And then donate a few bucks to them. They actually get people waving signs in the street, and apply pressure to the legislature.

Yes, you are right we need people waving signs in the streets and change the laws of victimless crimes...

On historycircus's sliding scale of nobility, 0 equalling none and 10 equaling God, I would give honest slavery a .00000002, and hidden slavery a .00000001. How about that?

You respond to an awful lot of my stuff negatively for a guy who doesn't care a lot.

Re: Moderator Election

lol
i was just wondering where you were coming from with that.

and just becasue i dont care if your a moderator or not, doesnt mean i dont care about other things.

I would respond the same way to someone else had they said it... even my Father. lol.

it has nothing to do with "you" or "your stuff".

if "god" said something that sounded off, I would question 'it' as well.

its not personal. lol

Peace

So I chose the "I dont care..." option, but I'm a little wary of anyone who wants to be a mod at this point. Seems like a fairly tedious job w/ very little reward.

If your in it to help this place w/ that in mind then I commend your intentions, but did you happen to read Mary Lou/Argante's warning: Potential Mod Thread?

If any of that stuff is true, then best of luck, and be careful what you wish for.

Now on to the matter at hand: Fraggle friggin Rock!
Thanks for the levity Kassandra.

Fraggle Rock immediately reminds me of my grandparents house in chicago. All of us kids couldn't wait to see grandma and grandpa, but fraggle rock on HBO sealed the deal. (Mom and dad wouldn't spring for premium cable That's so weird that they started on HBO). They were the "A" grandparents for sure.

Long live all muppets and the Henson name.

Tedious and narrowly rewarding is what I hear, but I doubt the job of "moderator" at any forum, from Avalon to recipieswap.com, is filled with much glory. Again, I would say that if my election accomplishes anything, it will be to gain support for an Avalonian picked "mod" or two. It would be nice to win the job, but I'll settle for making the point.

So vote Historycircus - hey, you could do worse, huh?

If I'm picked, I will not delete or edit without good reason. I only have two criteria for "good reasons," as I am an incredibly busy man, and totally lazy:

1: The indiscriminate posting of porn - like that jerk on Halloween. Or bomb building schematics. Or nuclear secrets. Anything that could get Avalon sued or put under FBI investigation (he he), or multi-post giant ding-dongs will not be moved to "Off Topic," they will be deleted permanently.

2. Personal threats. "I'm gonna' track you down with my special computer shixt, your IP, and kill you man" will not be tolerated. A personal threat is a life ban - no second chances. And we might even call the cops . . . Disagreement, if expressed rationally and non-violently, will be self-regulating.

Who else will nominate me? I said I wanted to run for POTUS, maybe Avalon is the first step? Huh?

I will only accept the position if over 30% of Avalonians give thier "yay." To have one third of Avalon support my bid for moderator would be a true honor, and I hope to have it.

Thanks

When I read this I get a feeling that your ego is a bit bloated and this is not the trademark of a good moderator. Bill Kerry and the Mods are keeping a good track of all the members that are posting here and that is there basis for who they choose as new mod. In your ridiculous poll there is the Porn-chose button, or what ever, this clearly shows that you are not Mod-material.

I am sorry you feel that my ego is bloated, my poll is ridiculous, and that option 3 is morally questionable.

I would simply argue that I am extremely confident in my intellectual abilities, my poll is justified by recent developments in the mod/poster social dynamics, and option 3 injects some much needed humor - I didn't post any pictures of naked ladies, I just used the word "porn."

I do, however, respect your opinion, and ask you to reconsider your position on having a mod or two chosen from the posters, by the posters, to possibly alleviate some of the mod/poster tension - even if it isn't me who gets chosen.

Thank you.

If only I could do that with a little more consistency, my campaign wouldn't be struggling in the polls.
