I was not too thrilled about either candidate but I do feel that this is a day of joy for many who in the past couldn't even sit in the same bus or drink water from the same tap and this is a day to celebrate that racism is dying everyday. It's not dead yet, but we are definitely evolving as humans.
Slowly but surely.
Now let's hope Obama doesn't screw it up in the white house! LOL

I can't say that I've felt strongly about either candidate. During the election I felt McCain was more erratic in behaviour partly I think because he was genuinely torn between reality and necessity.

Perhaps the PTB have a plan that involved ending slavery, ending segregation, promoting civil rights and enabling minorites and women that they have the right to lead.

I've watched these candidates since the beginning run themselves into the ground physically and emotionally. Maybe it's a show but they still did it. Kudos to them and now we have to hold Obama to his promises.

It's easy to sit and sneer but an amazing thing did just happen.

everyone is so happy about Obama, they didn't notice a few disappointments.

California just approved changing our constitution to ban gay marriages, and voted no on both alternate energy Bills...

and now for the really bad one...

no more drinking on San Diego beaches...

'The same nutters after all...'? You do mean the American voters...

Gordon....when people vote they vote in good faith. When and if it goes wrong, they are also let down.

It is unfair to blame an entire nation for the actions of a few.

And none of us seem to escape this type of sweeping generalisation.

I am not American, but I feel that in electing Barack, they have demonstrated something valuable to the world. Don't knock them.

Let's have some hope now :original:

I am trying not to comment about that.

Re: Election results!!!

so what does it mean for all of the couples that are already married in California, now that the constitution is being changed to say their marriage "can't" exist?

are we the first state to grant these rights and then take them away?

The voters said no...
The Judges said yes...
Now the constitution is being changed to take away rights...

anyone see this as alarming?

Are all the other states going to do it to?

Well heck, we might as well re write the Constitution of the US while we're at it...

No, I don't see this as alarming.... it sucks for gay people but it was voted on. That's democracy, though surprising- after all it is CALIFORNIA!! I live in arguably one the most uptight states in the country, we allow gay marriage and no one really seems to mind...

Everyone who is already married will retain that marriage as it was performed while gay marriage was 'legal'. At least that's how I understand it.

ahhh, but you haven't seen the changes...

They should have just been happy with Civil Unions, now they've crossed the line and there is no turning back.

Now it is in the constitution that they don't exist.

any guesses how quickly all the other states will follow California's lead?

William Henry Harrison (1773-1841) was the first US president to die in office. At 32 days, he also had the shortest term in office.

Rocky,
Also they brought 2 more Military Bridgades to the country and I think the total number is now 4,700.
I love how they sneak everything on us during Big events...don't you???!

you are talking to someone in a Military town with 500,000 soldiers...

I'm afraid 4700 doesn't impress me very much... :winksmiley02:

it's nothing to worry about...

I'm glad they are coming home.

G'day to you, Rocky. I enjoy listening to the BBC through NewsRadio. And I was wondering, how are the Australian Special Forces are doing in south of Afghanitan? I also hear on the radio that most-all counties are having problems in Afghanitan.
