What would be a GOOD, positive topic to start with?

I, for one, do NOT need another place to see negativity...open-mindedness, OF COURSE!!!!!

Would be nice to chat in real time with others here!

I had a few users ask last night if the chat room was part of Avalon since both were rather non-descript. I created one today that I think is more informative and includes a sidebar of this forums latest posts.

Let me know what you think. Everyone should have a say in this if we are all going to use it.

The owner of the projectavalon.net domain (presumably B&K) can easily create the sub-domain of chat.projectavalon.net and point it there as well

Yes the chatroom will be good for live discussions.

But you know what, at the same time the chatroom will have an effect on the forums ; when people chat, they won't feel the urge to publish threads on the forum anymore.

So it's a hard decision and I can foresee its negative effects from now.

The popup is a bit misleading, there is no danger in clicking accept. the differences between using a Java applet like the one on that page to chat on IRC and using a program such as mIRC are rather minimal. The idea is the same: user runs a piece of software, the software connects to the IRC server and channel desired, and the software provides a user-interface for the user. The Java applet is downloaded to the user's computer when the user visits the web page, and this Java applet is run off of the user's computer (inside the browser). The applet needs your permission to run like a small program on your computer.

The only major difference between using the Java applet (other than a really different user interface) is that there is no installation needed. You still fetch a program, run the program, and let the program connect your computer to the IRC network. It's just that the program is written in Java and has more security.

The software used to run http://projectavalon.2012info.ca/ is pjirc and has been a solid and secure solution for irc web interfaces since 2002.

same here...

i spent hundreds of dollars in internet security and no way I'll give unrestricted access to my computer for chatting...

i did connect using my handheld though...

I'm going to choose the vision that a chat room will only affect the forum in a positive way. People will feel more like close family and friends and will post more to the forum, esp. those shy ones who have not yet participated much.

We are co-creators of our reality - watch every word you think, say and write. I tend to forget this. Let's keep reminding each other until we have a new habit.

A lot of information will be lost in a chatroom. Hardly anybody has the time to keep up with what's been said & exchanced in a chatroom. For instance, I just watched the truly amazing Mars pictures. When this info would have been passed on during a 'chatroom' conversation, fat chance I would have missed it. I think the forum, as it is now, is already a chatroom. I see Avalon as an 'information exchance facility', between very 'aware' people. Let's not make things more complicated.
