This quotation brought to my mind the term "Recognition" that Leonard Laskow uses in the book Healing with Love. The fact that we can begin to heal our past hurts by calmly knowing what happened. Simply recognizing the truth.

In each moment we have the potential to be present, or to miss it. If we miss the moment, we never get it back, and when it happened we were essentially dead. Along the journey of evolution, we seemed to picked up the habit of not living in the moment, spending time either in the past, as memories, or in the future, as planning.

And it is often so hard to focus on the present...it is something that must be learned and then practiced.

The most successful tyranny is not the one that uses force to assure uniformity but the one that removes the awareness of other possibilities, that makes it seem inconceivable that other ways are viable, that removes the sense that there is an outside.

Jim Carey - In Living Colour doing a sketch on religious sects in court. For some reason that just cracks me up. I though some light humour would be nice!

Are you polluting the world or cleaning up the mess?
You are responsible for your inner space; nobody else is,
just as you are responsible for the planet.
As within, so without: If humans clear inner pollution,
then they will also cease to create outer pollution.

I shall not fear, fear is the mind killer.
Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration.
I shall face my fear.
I shall allow it to pass over me and through me.
When it is gone, only I shall remain.
