MIAC Report Under Review

MIAC Report Under Review

Posted by disorderlyvision on 06/03/09 12:25 AM

A special House committee has been formed to investigate the inner workings of a state agency that produced a controversial report linking some social conservative views to militia membership.

State Rep. Bob Dixon, R-Springfield, will chair the committee during the interim between legislative sessions.

The Missouri Information Analysis Center's Feb. 20 report created a nationwide firestorm among conservatives because it indicated people who favor small government, refuse to pay taxes, oppose abortion and oppose illegal immigration have tendencies to join violent militias.

The report also alleged that militia members tended to vote for Republican U.S. Rep. Ron Paul and third-party candidates like Libertarian Bob Barr and Constitution Party candidate Chuck Baldwin for president in the 2008 election.

State officials later apologized to Paul, Barr and Baldwin for being singled-out by name in the report.

Steve Bierfeldt from Campaign for Liberty tries to board airplane after Campaign for Liberty Regional Conference in St. Louis, Missouri detained by TSA for carrying $4700 in cash.

Mr. Bierfeldt happened to be in possession of a new telephone in his pocket that you just tap and the phone becomes a tape recorder and 85 - 90 percent of his encounter was recorded.

By now, you've undoubtedly heard about Steve Bierfeldt's troubling encounter with St. Louis TSA. If not, be sure to watch his interview with Judge Napolitano on Freedom Watch here.

Word is spreading about the incident. The Washington Times ran a story today covering TSA's harassment of Steve on March 29th, including follow-up comments from the victim on his treatment and what his stand meant to him:

C4L's Steve Bierfeldt Interviewed by CNN

Posted by Matt Hawes on 06/19/09

Earlier today, CNN interviewed C4L Director of Development Steve Bierfeldt regarding the recent lawsuit http://www.aclu.org/safefree/general...s20090618.html against the TSA filed on his behalf by the ACLU. As you may recall, Steve was detained http://www.campaignforliberty.com/blog.php?view=14907 by TSA officials in the St. Louis airport shortly after our first Regional Conference back in March.

We've been told by CNN that the interview may air during Wolf Blitzer's The Situation Room today. (Starts at 4 pm eastern.) I'll post a more definite hit time if we receive further information.

Update: Steve's segment was just advertised before the break, so it should be up soon.

Update 2: The interview is scheduled to air around 4:35 pm, and again in the 6 pm hour.

Update 3: DIRECT TO VIDEO (2:51): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcSSwW4K4AU

TSA Changes Rules Because of Campaign For Liberty Staffer, STEVE BIERFELDT :thumb_yello:

To borrow from Knight Rider (and other places, but why not make an 80s reference when one gets the chance), "one man can make a difference."

Thanks to Steve Bierfeldt's courageous stand in Missouri several months ago (and in the face of an ACLU lawsuit), the TSA now has to abide by two newly declared rules:

Quote:

The new rules, issued in September and October, tell officers "screening may not be conducted to detect evidence of crimes unrelated to transportation security" and that large amounts of cash don't qualify as suspicious for purposes of safety...
.

Although the article starts out by identifying Steve as a Paul aide, it does later correctly mention that he is Director of Development for Campaign for Liberty. Way to go, Steve!
