Picture posted recently on Coast to Coast AM: http://www.coasttocoastam.com under LISTENER'S EMAILS of Aurora Borealis in Alaska:

11-25-08-- Hello Coast Family. I thought I would share another Northern Lights shot taken from Salcha, Alaska looking north towards Eielson AFB. This shot was just amazing to witness. At the time I was pondering how thankful I am for the awesome things that have happened in my life (not to mention I couldn't feel my fingers at -22F ) and these angel wings appeared before my eyes. The weather wasn't the only thing that gave me the chills last night. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hi peaceandlove,

Just scroll over and right click on the image you want (if it's already on the web, and not just on your comp). Click on "properties" and copy the url, and paste it on your post page and then type at the end leaving no spaces.

hit the quote button on one of the big pic posts to see an example.

This image taken by the same photographer earlier this year, appears to be the Halo for the Angel image above.

Aurora Borealis at Birch Lake

I just wanted to share with the Coast family this Aurora Borealis shot I took last month (4/08) on Birch Lake about 60 miles south of Fairbanks, Alaska. My bride and I were parked on the lake listening to the water slapping the underside of the ice along with the ice flexing sounding just like a shotgun blast in the distance. Ice thickness was still 40" to 35" thick but my bride still didn't like it too well to say the least.

Then the aurora decided to show after waiting a few hours.

12/18/2008 CLOUD WAVES ~ Nice Repetitive Pattern
Quote:

This morning in Norway, a bank of nacreous clouds rolled over the city of Trondheim. "They were very colorful (almost like auroras)," says onlooker Ivar Marthinusen, who sent this photo. Nacreous clouds are located in the stratosphere some 9 to 16 miles high. Their iridescent"mother of pearl" colors come from sunlight striking tiny ice crystals inside the clouds. Very low temperatures near -85o C are required to form the crystals, which is why nacreous clouds are seen mainly during winter over places like Alaska, Iceland and Scandinavia.

NACREOUS CLOUDS: For the second time in a week, nacreous clouds have made an appearance over Scandinavia. On Dec. 17th they were sighted over Trondheim, Norway. Yesterday, the clouds came to Kittila, Finland:

http://spaceweather.com/nacreousclou...ifq6no8pll8lc1

"These were our first nacreous clouds of the season," says photographer Sauli Koski. "I could watch them all day!"

Nacreous clouds are located in the stratosphere some 9 to 16 miles high. Their iridescent "mother of pearl" colors come from sunlight striking tiny ice crystals inside the clouds. Very low temperatures near -85o C are required to form the crystals, which is why nacreous clouds are seen mainly during winter over places like Alaska, Iceland and Scandinavia.

These clouds are supposed to be rare, yet earlier this year Scandinavians witnessed a veritable "nacreous storm." For more than a week in January 2008, hardly a night went by without someone spotting mother-of-pearl colors in the sky. No one knows what caused the storm or if it could happen again. One thing is sure: northern sky watchers should be alert for more. The best time to look is during the twilight hours before dawn or after sunset.

I love this thread, so I thought I should contribute to it myself. I can't put my finger on it, but it is something magical about these two creatures. The picture captures something that goes deep...
